Trout Planting, by the Shaver Lake Trophy Trout Project, is under the direction of long time planting director Bob Bernier. We will be planting about 7000# of 3 to 7 pound rainbows in the spring
These rainbows are not your normal concrete pool raised fish. The beautiful trout we planted this year came from Calaveras Trout Farm, Inc., a privately owned hatchery in Snelling, CA.
There is no cost or any other "catch" to the program. Purchase your license, come up to the lake, drop a line and catch one of these beautiful Rainbows at Shaver Lake! Feel free to "catch and release" and please send us a picture of your fish before you do!
The hardworking S.L.T.T.P. members along with Bernier have been planting the trophies for a decade with financial help from donors, and businesses but primary funds are generated from the annual fundraising dinner each August. Please note the next dinner, August 9, 2025, will be at Lyle's Lodge - Camp Chawanakee, Shaver Lake - see "Annual Sportsman's Dinner" section for more information

The vision of the S.L.T.T.P. is to make Shaver Lake a destination lake known for its trophy-sized trout. In line with that mission, our members have established an outreach program that includes educating visitors and locals in the conservation, preservation, and restoration of the lake and surrounding area
Trout in the Classroom is a way our members promote education in our local schools. Working in conjunction with a local hatchery our volunteers provide trout eggs and complete aquariums to local and valley schools. The kids then "raise" the fish as well as participate in releasing the fish into Shaver Lake
Members provide opportunities to fish with various groups, including under-privileged, and special needs youth, and is a major sponsor of the Youth Derby.
Additionally, S.L.T.T.P. is proud to award three scholarships annually to Sierra High School students, one in Memory of S.L.T.T.P. Co-Founder Captain Jack Yandell
